Mind Over Matter Karate isn’t your typical dojo. We may practise traditional martial arts here, but there’s more to our practice than discipline and getting mentally healthy and physically fit. Here’s why Mind Over Matter Karate stands out from the rest.

We focus on actual self-defense. We train our students to maintain a practical mindset and apply their training to reality-based situations. More than that, we don’t limit our applications to kicking and punching. Mind Over Matter training gives our students confidence to use self-defense in any situation and includes grappling, throwing, locking, tripping and a mix of it all.

We practice a diverse and open-minded style of karate. Learning a variety of skills from Shotokan, Wado Ryu, and Shukokai will prepare students for any situation. We empower each student to become a leader. Every one of our instructors (including Sensei Neil) was once a student. In fact, at Mind Over Matter, every student gets one on one personal development and leadership coaching from day one. Not only that, but every student is systematically trained to become a teaching assistant at purple belt and an instructor by the time they become a black-belt! This is a great way to build confidence and leadership skills over time that spill into all areas of life while paying it forward.

We are always striving to make our style and our atmosphere more conducive to learning the holistic practice of karate. Our students are always teaching us new ways to teach, and new ways to practise.
