Exploration meets learning at Horne Lake Caves & Outdoor Centre. Spelunking feeds every appetite, from mild to wild. Start your journey with a short discovery walk through the forest to reach the cave entrance. Here you’ll begin a fascinating subterranean experience. As you step away from the emerald forest and deeper into the cave, a new world of crystal formations, marbled surfaces and ancient fossils reveals itself. Test your personal limits using ramps, ladders and slides to navigate passages through a variety of caves. Feel the cool air. Listen to the sound of your guide’s voice, the steady drip of seeping surface water or the rumbling of an unexpected waterfall. Turn off your headlamp to heighten your senses and absorb the power of complete darkness. It’s an intense, wild and transformative adventure.

Horne Lake is a 2.5-hour drive north of Victoria, BC, or 1 hour from Comox Valley or Nanaimo. The turn-off to the park is accessible from the Island Freeway (Hwy 19), north of Qualicum Beach. Horne Lake Caves & Outdoor Centre is open daily for above-ground activities, cave tours and self-guided exploration. Reservations recommended. The year-round temperature in the cave is a steady 8 degrees Celsius (46F). Cavers must be at least 5 years of age. Good footwear and long pants are a must – no flip flops or sandals. Cavers must be able to navigate over loose and slippery rocks and to climb small ladders.
